Who Is Mossimo Giannulli, Olivia Jade Giannulli’s Father?

Culture

This week, Olivia Jade Giannulli has been all over the internet in relation to her mother, actress Lori Loughlin’s, arrest and a college admissions scam. Olivia Jade and Loughlin have seemed to take center stage in this scandal, but there is one person who was also accused of paying $500,000 to have Olivia Jade and her sister, Isabella Rose, recruited to USC’s crew team: their father, Mossimo Giannulli. He was arrested on Tuesday, just one day before his wife, who was out of the country at the time. So, who is this guy, exactly?

Giannulli’s first name is Synonymous With Target Fashion

The 55-year-old is behind mens fashion line “Mossimo,” the affordable brand sold at Target from 2000 until 2017, when the brand was phased out of Target stores to redirect customer interest to new labels. Target spoke out about the brand and was also sure to distance itself from any conflict: “We haven’t had a working relationship with Mossimo Giannulli in over a decade and we no longer carry any Mossimo branded products at Target,” the company said in a statement.

Giannulli Has a Questionable College Story

A storyline familiar to many Americans now, Giannulli got family money to start his business. Per The Hollywood Reporter, he went to USC but dropped out in 1987 and borrowed $100,000 from his father to set up business in a garage in Balboa Island at Newport Beach. Days before the scandal broke, Olivia Jade posted a video alleging that her father was never actually enrolled in college: “He didn’t come from a lot, so it’s cool to see that he built it all himself,” the influencer shared. “He, like, built his whole entire brand and he wasn’t actually, like, I don’t know if I’m supposed to say this, ever enrolled in college. But he, like, faked his way through it and then he started his whole business with tuition money that his parents thought was going to college,” she said. “That’s, like, such a different time. I don’t know if I was supposed to say that, but it’s OK.”

Giannulli Has a Hefty Net Worth

Giannulli sold Mossimo to Iconix Brand Group in 2006 for $135 million. Now, Celebrity Net Worth estimates that he is worth $80 million. The fact that both he and Loughlin were released on $1 million bonds makes a lot of sense, considering how much money he’s working with.
